Abuja, Nigeria – In a historic move, President Bola Tinubu is set to launch the old national anthem, “Nigeria, We Hail Thee,” today, Wednesday, at a joint session of the National Assembly.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio made the announcement, stating that the President will visit the National Assembly to officially launch the old national anthem, which was originally composed when Nigeria gained independence on October 1, 1960.

The move comes after the National Anthem Bill 2024 was passed by both the Senate and the House of Representatives at separate sittings. The bill seeks to return the national anthem to its original version, which played a significant role in shaping Nigeria’s national identity and unity during the 1960s and late 1970s.

The launch of the old national anthem is significant, as it marks the Silver Jubilee of Nigeria’s 4th Republic and the first anniversary of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
