A 58-year-old man, reportedly on a 19-day fast, has been confirmed dead in the Alagbado area of Lagos State.

The state Police Command Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed this in a telephone conversation with our correspondent on Tuesday.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the deceased, whose identity was not mentioned, died at about 6:00 am.

Hundeyin said the deceased’s younger brother, whose name has not been disclosed, notified the Alagbado Police Division of the incident around 7 pm on Monday.
According to him, the younger brother said his brother died while allegedly undergoing 19 days of dry fasting.

“No foul play suspected; the family demands to convey the corpse for burial,” Humdeyin said.

In 2019, a Zambian pastor named Brighton Samajomba died under similar circumstances after fasting for 10 days as part of his annual 30-day fasting programme.
