Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, officially launched his 2027 presidential bid on Friday. His supporters have already begun rallying behind him, using the hashtag #MakindeForPresident to promote his candidacy. Currently, the governor is hosting members of the PDP press corps in Ibadan, where he is showcasing his projects across the southwest states. Interestingly, the official social media accounts of the PDP have been using the hashtag #MakindeForPresident while sharing photos and videos of his signature projects. Makinde has positioned himself as a strong contender for the presidency within the main opposition party. Earlier, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State confirmed that Governor Makinde would contest in the 2027 presidential election.
Michael Ogunsina, the Acting Publicity Secretary and Youth Leader of the party in the state, revealed that Makinde is a better candidate than the current president, Bola Tinubu. Ogunsina added that Makinde could complete the southern tenure, highlighting his experience and leadership skills. He emphasized that Makinde relies on data, science, and logic to foster good governance.
A WhatsApp group was created to promote the governor’s potential presidential bid in 2027. The group, which currently has 467 members, includes prominent individuals such as Olajide Odidiomo, a member of the House of Representatives representing Ibadan Northwest/Southwest. Notably, several of Governor Makinde’s aides and local government officials are also part of the group, including his personal assistant on political matters, Akeem Azeez.
