General Manager of Pensioner FM, Dr. Otunba Babatunde Tiamiyu, has raised an alarm over what he described as the growing deterioration in the quality of Yoruba news translation on broadcast media platforms.

In a Facebook post, Otunba cited awkward translations such as “nigba to njuwe adugbo re…” and “ninu idagbasoke miran…”, questioning how such phrases are making it into professional news bulletins.

He narrated how someone from a South-Western state sent the translations to him for clarification, noting that the poor phrasing reflects a troubling trend in language usage among modern-day Yoruba news presenters.

“Can you imagine a translator reading that?” he queried, expressing frustration at the erosion of standard Yoruba expressions in news content.
