The apology followed a matter of urgent public importance raised by the majority leader during plenary last week, expressing displeasure over defamation statement by Saki West lawmaker.

Hon Adedoyin said the lawmaker, in a viral video, accused him and the speaker, Rt Hon Adebo Ogundoyin of bribery during a house committee oversight function to Saki.

During Tuesday’ plenary, Hon Shittu tendered unreserved apology to the house claiming the accusations seen in the viral video was not intentional.

He said “It wasn’t intentional, I’m part of this hallowed chamber, I tender my unreserved apology.”

Contributing, the deputy speaker, Hon Muhammed Fadeyi asked the house to present the apology in hardcopy for proper documentation.

Also speaking, Hon Gabriel Babajide told the house to reject Hon Shittu’s apology until it is published in major Newspapers.

However, despite accepting the Committee’s report and all its recommendations, the House rejected the apology tendered by Mr. Shittu andand referred the matter back to the Ethics and Privileges Committee for further disciplinary recommendations.

The Ethics Committee had been mandated to investigate the viral footage following a resolution of the House on Tuesday, January 20, 2026.

Mr. Shittu was alleged to have publicly accused the Majority Leader, Mr. Sanjo Onaolapo (Ogbomoso South), of receiving bribes from the Chairman of Saki West Local Government, while also casting disparaging remarks on the Speaker and the House proceedings.

Other members in their contributions faulted the apology made by Mr. Shittu, describing it as insincere and lacking genuine remorse.

Consequently, a Motion was moved to reject his apology.

Speaker, Mr. Ogundoyin ruled that Mr. Shittu’s apology be rejected, citing its inadequacy and lack of genuine contrition.
