Former Kaduna Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has launched a scathing attack on the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing the party of assuming that everyone in public office is corrupt.
Speaking during an interview on Arise TV’s Prime Time programme on Friday, El-Rufai alleged that the APC-led administration is desperate and bent on silencing perceived opponents ahead of the 2027 political cycle.
He claimed that authorities have been probing him since June 2023 without uncovering any wrongdoing.
The current administration is desperate and determined to bring down everyone. They think we were thieves like them when in government,” he said.
El-Rufai further alleged that his former Chief of Staff and Commissioner for Finance, along with several of his senior aides, were arrested, interrogated and charged to court on what he described as frivolous allegations, insisting that no evidence of corruption has been established.
The former governor also accused his successor, Uba Sani, of enabling the actions against him.
Recalling his years in public service between 1999 and 2007, El-Rufai challenged anyone with evidence of corruption against him to come forward.
“I challenge any Nigerian to come out and expose me if I ever took one kobo bribe while in public office,” he declared.
His comments come amid controversy following reports that operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) attempted to arrest him on Thursday, a development that has triggered widespread political debate.
