Governor Seyi Makinde has inaugurated two major committees aimed at repositioning Oyo State as a leading global tourism destination.
The inauguration, held at the State Secretariat, Ibadan, underscores the administration’s renewed push to unlock the state’s tourism potential and strengthen its global visibility.
Governor Makinde, during the Inauguration noted that Oyo State’s challenge is not a lack of tourist attractions, but rather the absence of a structured system that can inspire international confidence.
He stressed that while the state is rich in tourism assets, these must be supported by strong service delivery, clear frameworks, and continuity in order to convert interest into sustained tourist visits.
He further disclosed that the state is actively working toward securing direct international flight operations into Ibadan, a move aimed at firmly placing Oyo State on the global tourism map.
The Governor emphasized that government alone cannot drive the tourism sector, calling for robust collaboration with the private sector and other key stakeholders to achieve sustainable growth.
The two committees inaugurated are the Oyo State 2026 International Tourism Summit Organising Committee and the 25-Year Tourism Master Plan Committee.
While the Summit Committee is expected to build on the success of previous editions since 2024, the Master Plan Committee is tasked with developing a long-term roadmap to guide tourism development, investment decisions, and policy continuity across successive administrations, regardless of political changes.

Oyo State’s key tourism assets include the scenic Iyake Lake in Ado-Awaye, the granite formations of Igbeti, the rolling hills of Idere, and the historic Bower’s Tower, among several others spread across the state.
The initiative reflects the administration’s broader strategy to transform Oyo State into a structured, investment-ready, and globally competitive tourism destination.
