The Osun State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that, the suspect captured in widely circulated viral video assaulting innocent female Police officers on lawful traffic control duty with baton and shovel has been arrested.
Following the disturbing incident, which showed the suspect attacking the innocent female officer with a stick and shovel, the Police immediately launched a coordinated intelligence-led operation to apprehend the perpetrator. The suspect, who fled the scene and escaped to Edo State in an attempt to evade arrest, was successfully tracked and apprehended today.
The arrest underscores the commitment of the Police to ensuring that acts of violence against law enforcement officers and other citizens do not go unpunished. Assault on Police officers performing their lawful duties is a serious criminal offence, and the Force will not tolerate any form of attack on its personnel.
The suspect is currently in custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The Commissioner of Police has condemned the act in strong terms, describing it as barbaric and unacceptable. He further reassured members of the public that the Command remains resolute in protecting lives and property, while also urging citizens to respect law enforcement officers and cooperate with them in the discharge of their duties.
Members of the public are encouraged to remain law-abiding and report any suspicious activities to the nearest Police Station.
