Two police operatives identified simply as Kehinde and Tobi have been killed in a hit-and-run accident along the Osogbo/Gbongan Road in Oogi community, Osun State.
The Osun State Police Command confirmed the incident on Thursday, disclosing that the victims were travelling on a motorcycle when a Lexus car rammed into them on Wednesday.
Speaking with journalists, the spokesperson for the command, Abiodun Ojelabi, said the driver of the vehicle fled the scene immediately after the crash, abandoning the car.
“The two police operatives were travelling on a motorcycle when they got hit. One Lexus car hit them. Kehinde and Tobi are the two operatives involved,” Ojelabi said.
He added that the police had launched a manhunt for the fleeing driver and had already recovered both the Lexus vehicle and the motorcycle involved in the fatal accident.
“We have launched probe into the accident, and we are tracking the driver of the car. The vehicle and motorcycle involved have been recovered and taken to station,” he stated.
Ojelabi further disclosed that one of the deceased officers had already been buried in line with Islamic rites.
The police spokesperson said investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident were ongoing.
“We have commenced an investigation into the accident,” he added.
