The Department of Estate Management, Lead City University, Ibadan, has bestowed a notable recognition upon Barrister Oloyede Adelani, a renowned legal practitioner and Estate Surveyor and Valuer, for his outstanding impact on the growth and evolution of estate management in Nigeria.
Barrister Adelani was presented with the award during the department’s Seminar Series 4.0 at the university campus.
Professionals, academics, and students gathered at the event titled ‘Artificial Intelligence Trajectory: An Emerging Factor in Real Estate, Surveying, and Valuation Profession,’ to deliberate on the impact of technology on the built environment.
During his keynote speech, Barrister Adelani emphasized the pressing necessity for real estate and valuation professionals to evolve with swift technological advancements.
He emphasized that the dynamic nature of global communication and the increasing reliance on data-driven decision-making necessitate estate surveyors and valuers to adopt Artificial Intelligence to enhance service delivery, data accuracy, and global market competitiveness.
“Artificial Intelligence is an emerging factor in real estate, surveying, and valuation. It is emerging from its own embryo, and it is now clear for all of us to take on. I encourage you not to rely 100 percent on the training given to you in school, but to keep training yourselves and stay ahead of the curve,” Adelani told participants.
Upon receiving the award, Barrister Adelani applauded the Department of Estate Management, Lead City University, for its commitment to aligning academic curriculum with industry needs.
He commended the department’s initiatives for having a positive influence on younger generations and preparing them to make meaningful contributions to the sector.
In an interview with Newsmen, Estate Surveyor and Valuer ESV Yaya Ajagbe expressed appreciation to the department for acknowledging Barrister Adelani.
“The honouree deserves more than this. ESV Adelani is a man of many parts. He is one of my benefactors and is committed to the service of humanity,” Ajagbe said.
The seminar also featured lectures from industry experts. Estate Valuer Tayo Odunsi, represented by Miss Farida Alaka, and ESV Ayodeji Odeleye emphasized that Artificial Intelligence should be seen as a tool to enhance professional practice.
“Artificial Intelligence will not replace professionals who use it, but it will replace anyone who refuses to make use of it,” they jointly noted.
The conclusion of the event highlighted the importance of ongoing collaboration between academia and industry in ensuring the relevance of Nigerian professionals amidst digital transformation.
The programme drew representation from key stakeholders in the real estate, surveying, and valuation sectors.
