Owa-Onire is a rural agrarian community in the Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, Nigeria, internationally renowned as the home of the spectacular Owu Waterfalls. Standing at an altitude of approximately 590 m above sea level, the cascading 120-meter falls are the highest in West Africa.
In this video, obtained by the Click News Nigeria, made by security forces deployed to maintain order in the town, the ancient town has been totally deserted leaving only a few of their livestock roaming about.
Current Status & Insecurity
In recent times, Owa-Onire has faced significant security challenges. The community has experienced a mass exodus of residents and a temporary desertion of the town due to bandit attacks and kidnappings. State and federal security forces have continued to carry out clearance operations to restore peace and security to the area.
