Peter Ibrahim Gyendyeng, a Christian resident of Plateau State, has built a Juma’at Mosque in Gana Ropp community of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The construction of the mosque has brought great joy to Muslims in the community, who described the gesture as a move to showcase a sense of belonging.
Our correspondent reports that the development came amid violence in some parts of Plateau, including Barikin Ladi where relationships between Christians and Muslims has been strained in recent time.
But speaking during the commissioning of the mosque, Gyendyeng, a former member of the House of Representatives representing Barkin Ladi/Bassa Constituency, explained that he built the worship center for the Muslims to serve as a symbol of unity among residents in the area and the state at large including Christians and Muslims.According to Gyendyeng, any money given to members of the Muslim community would be finished quickly.
He said you cannot do anything to please people’s minds, but building them a worship center where would be praying for peace and development of the country, adding that another way to assist people is to give them what they always cherish.
Reacting to the development, the Chief Imam of the Mosque, Sheikh Ladan Gana Ropp, said the community is happy with the project and believes it makes them feel at home.
“Honestly, we were happy when he built the Mosque. He is not holding any political position now but was still able to do a project of this kind. We have never experienced any project like this in the area until now. We really appreciate it and it has given us a sense of belonging. If he gives us money, we will spend it and finish it, but this project, we will never forget it.During the commissioning, we all came together to pray for him, the state government, and the country at large. People of this character can change others’ mindset towards unity and harmony,” he added.
The Chief Imam called on both Christians and Muslims in the area and the Plateau at large to embrace peace, unity and tolerance for the betterment of humanity.
Our correspondent reports that those in attendance during the commissioning included Pastors and Reverends and other members of the Christian community.
