A major stakeholders across the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Ogbomoso South Local Government Progressives Forum, has called on the Oyo State Chairman of the party, Chief Moses Adeyemo Alake, to avert what it described as an alleged attempt to impose a chairman on the party in Ogbomoso South Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Speaking in an interview with Clicknews correspondent on Friday, the Chairman of the stakeholders, Alhaji Aremolekun Isiaka alongside the Secretary, Hon. Ojo Sunday, said members of the group were concerned over developments surrounding the leadership of the party in the council area.
According to them, the state secretariat of the APC had invited newly selected local government party chairmen across the state to a meeting scheduled to hold in Ibadan.
Alhaji Aremolekun Isiaka explained that the major stakeholders remains committed to the unity and progress of the party, stressing that members were working assiduously to ensure that the APC records electoral success in future polls, particularly the 2027 general elections.
“We in the Ogbomoso south major stakeholders are fully committed to the success and stability of our great party. By the grace of Almighty God, the APC will record resounding success in the 2027 elections. However, we must set some records straight, and that is why we are appealing to the leadership of the party in Oyo State to address this issue urgently,” he said.
The forum expressed confidence in the emergence of Hon. Jide Leke as the consensus chairman of the party in Ogbomoso South Local Government, describing his selection as a move capable of strengthening the party’s structure and promote unity ahead of future elections
According to Alh. Aremolekun, members of the stakeholders were surprised to learn that the meeting scheduled at the party’s state secretariat in Oke-Ado, Ibadan, for newly elected local government chairmen did not include the consensus chairman from Ogbomoso South.
“Today, we learnt that there will be a meeting in Oke-Ado, Ibadan, where all the new local government party chairmen elected through consensus are expected to be present. However, we were informed that the consensus chairman from Oriire, Hon. Jide leke, was not invited to the meeting,” he stated.
He therefore appealed to the state chairman and members of the State Working Committee to immediately extend an invitation to Hon. Jide, noting that excluding him could create unnecessary tension within the party in the council area.
The group warned that actions perceived as imposition or disregard for consensus decisions could undermine the unity and stability of the party at the grassroots level, especially at a time when political parties are already strategising for future elections.
While expressing confidence in the leadership capacity of Chief Alake, who also served as a former Deputy Governor of Oyo State, the forum urged him to intervene in the matter and ensure that the consensus arrangement reached by party stakeholders in Oriire is respected.
“We know that the chairman of the party and former Deputy Governor is a leader who understands the nitty-gritty of politics and has vast experience in party administration. We therefore call on Chief Alake and the State Working Committee to save the party from internal crisis by ensuring that the consensus chairman, Hon. Jide leke, is duly recognised and sworn in,” the major stakeholders added.
The stakeholders reiterated their commitment to the growth of the APC in Ogbomoso South Local Government and urged party leaders at all levels to prioritise unity, fairness and internal democracy in handling party affairs.
