Senate President Godswill Akpabio has called on Nigerians to remain patient with the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying ongoing economic reforms were beginning to deliver tangible results, particularly in the petroleum sector.

Speaking on recent developments, Akpabio said the country has witnessed a significant shift from the days of severe fuel scarcity, when motorists spent hours in long queues without success.

Since we came on board, we have not had three to five kilometres of vehicles lined up at fuel stations to buy petrol,” he said. “There was a time Nigerians were ready to pay as much as N10,000 per litre, yet the product was not available.”

He noted that the current situation, where petrol is largely accessible across the country without queues, reflects the impact of government policies aimed at liberalising the downstream sector and encouraging private sector participation.

According to the Senate President, the Tinubu administration’s collaboration with private investors has helped boost local refining capacity, reducing dependence on imports and stabilising supply.

“For the first time, we are producing what we consume and consuming what we produce. We are even exporting to other countries,” he added.

Akpabio’s remarks come amid ongoing public debate over fuel prices and the broader economic challenges facing Nigerians, including inflation and cost-of-living pressures.

While acknowledging these concerns, he insisted that the reforms are necessary steps toward long-term economic stability.

He urged citizens to take a longer-term view of the government’s policies, expressing confidence that the benefits would become more evident over time.
