The Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, is among the 17 Chairmen of State Councils of Obas currently participating in the Southern States Traditional Rulers Council roundtable holding in Port Harcourt.
The high-level meeting, chaired by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, was officially declared open by Siminalayi Fubara, Governor of Rivers State.
In his opening remarks, Governor Fubara commended the unity of traditional rulers across Southern Nigeria, spanning the South-West, South-South, and South-East despite cultural, religious, and ideological differences. He noted that the council’s focus on fostering unity, peace, security, cohesion, and development aligns with the broader goal of national progress.
The governor further emphasized the need for collective commitment toward inclusive growth, urging continued support for the re-election of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as President, stating that “you do not change a winning team.”
Fubara also expressed satisfaction with the calibre of attendees at the roundtable, which includes former governors, ex-lawmakers, business leaders, and religious figures, and wished the participants fruitful deliberations.
In his welcome address, the Ooni of Ife reiterated the vision behind the Southern Traditional Rulers Council, while acknowledging the roles of previous host states, including Imo State, Ogun State, and Lagos State. He paid special tribute to Hope Uzodimma, Governor of Imo State, for hosting the maiden edition.
Oba Ogunwusi also appreciated Governor Fubara and the people of Rivers State for their warm hospitality, describing the council as a gathering of distinguished leaders from diverse sectors. He highlighted the Olubadan of Ibadanland, who also serves as Chairman of the Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs, as a key figure within the council.
