One of the foremost socio-cultural groups in Ibadanland, Omo Ajorosun Club, has debunked the rumour making rounds that it has endorsed a particular candidate for the forthcoming 2027 governorship election in Oyo State.

In a statement signed and released by the General Secretary of the club, Otunba Saheed Makinde, the President of the club Mogaji Salahudeen Adeniyi said the attention of the club has been drawn to a news report circulating on the 23rd May, 2026 by a blogger .

The president said the news was a fabricated lie, unfounded rumour and not emanating from Omo Ajorosun Club, stressing that the club has always been non-partisan and remained apolitical.

Adeniyi urged the general public, media houses and political stakeholders to disregard the said publication. He added that the publication is false, misleading and does not reflect any resolution or position of the club.

He therefore issued a stern warning to peddlers of fake news who are bent on dragging the revered name of the club into dirty water of politics, stressing that the club reserves the right to drag fake news fabricator before the court.

The statement reads: “The leadership and executives of Omo Aj’orosun Club have not endorsed Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi or any other candidate for the 2027 Oyo State Governorship election.

“The Club did not pay any ‘political courtesy visit’ to Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi to declare political support. Any political meeting between individuals who are members of the Club and any politician remains a private affair and does not represent the position of Omo Aj’orosun Club.

“Omo Aj’orosun Club is a socio-cultural association. We are non-partisan/non-religious, hence, we do not engage in partisan politics. Our constitution forbids the use of the club’s name to promote political candidates.

“We urge the general public, media houses, and political stakeholders to disregard the said publication. It is false, misleading, and does not reflect any resolution of the Club.

“The club reserves the right to take necessary steps against peddlers of fake news aimed at dragging our respected name into politics.”
