A victim of an armed robbery attack in Ibadan, Oyo State, has narrated how the suspects spent about six hours in his house, eating meat and drinking alcohol before leaving with valuables.
The victim, who said he had only moved into the house three days before the incident, gave the account while speaking during the police interrogation of some suspects arrested over the robbery.
He said the gang seized his phones and used one of them to transfer money from his account before helping themselves to food and drinks in the house.
He added that the robbers drove away in his car
I have only been living in that house for three days. So when they entered, they took my phones and made a transfer from my account.
“They went into the kitchen, ate food and dried meat. They went to the bar, took Hennessy and drank it,”
“When they were leaving, they took my Hyundai Santa Fe 2017 model,” he said.
One of the suspects, identified as Tofeeq Talabi, admitted participating in the operation and mentioned Alakia and Oluwo as two locations where the gang had carried out robberies.
“One was at Alakia… one was at Oluwo,” he said.
Talabi said the gang made away with phones and N1.5 million from one of the operations, with the money transferred to an account linked to another member of the group.
“We collected his phone, and money from him,” he said when asked what they stole.
Asked about the N1.5 million, he confirmed it was obtained through a transfer and identified the account holder as Alapa, whom he said was in Lagos.
Another suspect explained that the gang gained access to the property by scaling the fence.
“We scaled the fence to enter,” he said.
He also said a member of the group had knowledge of the neighbourhood and helped identify potential targets.
“This person here is the one who knows that neighbourhood,” the suspect said, adding that the individual knew houses where they could carry out robberies.
The suspect denied an allegation that members of the gang sexually assaulted the victim’s wife but confirmed that they ate dried meat and drank alcohol at the property.
“We didn’t have intercourse with his wife,” he said.
On how long they remained at the location, he said the operation began at about 11:30 p.m. and continued until around 5:30 a.m.
“We were there until around 5:30,” he said, explaining that they waited because their guide had told them vehicles usually passed through the estate gate around 5:00 a.m.
The suspect said the gang was eventually arrested while celebrating after the operation.
“We were having a party to celebrate our loot,” he said.
