The All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have filed separate petitions challenging the outcome of the August 15, 2026, Osun State governorship election, which returned Governor Ademola Adeleke for a second term.
The two petitions, dated September 5, 2026, were displayed on the notice board of the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal Secretariat in Osogbo on Monday, formally setting the legal process in motion.
The APC petition, marked EPT/OS/GOV/01/2026, was filed by its governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, against Governor Adeleke, the Accord Party and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The PDP petition, marked EPT/OS/GOV/02/2026, was filed by Adebayo Olugbenga Adedamola against Adeleke, INEC and the Accord Party.
The filing of the petitions is expected to pave the way for the service of legal processes on the parties involved and the commencement of proceedings before the tribunal.
During a visit to the tribunal secretariat on Monday, officials were seen making preparations for the commencement of proceedings, while the secretary and other staff were in the courtroom.
Officials of the Accord Party and members of its legal team were also seen arriving at the tribunal.
The development marks the beginning of a legal battle over the result of the August 15 governorship election in Osun State.
