A 23-year-old housewife, identified as Sadiya Lawal, has been arrested by the Katsina State Police Command over the alleged attempted murder of her husband after she reportedly attacked him with a knife while he slept in their home in Katsina metropolis.

The victim, Jamilu Ibrahim, narrowly escaped death after sustaining a deep cut to the neck during the early morning attack.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, disclosed the incident in a statement issued on Monday, saying the case was first reported at the Central Market Police Division in Katsina.

According to the police, Ibrahim arrived at the station around 9am on Monday and informed officers that his wife attacked him at about 5:30am while he was asleep, allegedly attempting to slit his throat with a sharp knife.

Police authorities said the victim was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment and is currently responding positively.

The statement read, “Today, June 29, 2026, at about 9am, one Jamilu Ibrahim, male, reported at the Central Market Division, Katsina, that on the same date at about 5:30am, while he was asleep, his wife, one Sadiya Lawal, female, age 23, attacked him with a knife in an attempt to slit his throat. The victim sustained a deep cut injury to the neck.

Sadiq added that detectives visited the scene of the incident, arrested the suspect and recovered the knife allegedly used in the attack.

“The suspect is in custody under investigation and will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation,” he added.

In a separate development, the Katsina State Police Command also announced that its operatives foiled an attempted bandit attack in Dandume Local Government Area after armed men riding motorcycles were sighted along the Kadisau-Sheme Road.

According to the police spokesperson, a distress call received on June 28, 2026, prompted the Divisional Police Officer to swiftly deploy operatives from the Violent Crimes Response Unit alongside members of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps.

The security operatives reportedly engaged the suspected bandits in a gun duel, forcing them to flee the area.

“On June 28, 2026, at about 6:30pm, a distress call was received at the Dandume Division that a large group of armed bandits riding on motorcycles was sighted along the Kadisau-Sheme Road, Dandume LGA,” Sadiq stated.

“Upon receipt of the report, the DPO quickly mobilised operatives from the Violent Crimes Response Unit (VCRU) and the Katsina State Community Watch Corps (KSCWC) to the scene. The team engaged the hoodlums in a gun duel. Due to superior firepower and tactics, the suspects were forced to retreat and flee the scene.”

The police said the fleeing suspects abandoned two operational motorcycles and a machete, which were recovered at the scene as exhibits.

Authorities added that efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.

Reacting to both incidents, the Commissioner of Police in Katsina State, Aliyu Umar Fage, commended the officers involved in repelling the bandits and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.

Fage also urged residents to shun domestic violence and embrace peaceful means of resolving family disputes.

“The command remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents. We also urge members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information that will aid the police in combating crime and criminality.”
