In a historic development that has reshaped Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of the next general election, the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has emerged as the presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement following a consensus primary election held at the prestigious Theophilus Ogunlesi Hall, opposite the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan.
The well-attended primary election brought together party leaders, delegates, stakeholders, and supporters from across the country, culminating in the unanimous adoption of Governor Makinde as the party’s standard-bearer for the presidency.
Amid loud cheers and celebration, he was formally presented with the party’s flag and Certificate of Return, signaling his official emergence as the APM candidate for the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Addressing the enthusiastic gathering shortly after receiving the party’s mandate, Governor Makinde expressed profound appreciation to the leadership and members of the APM for reposing confidence in him and entrusting him with what he described as “a sacred responsibility to provide quality leadership for Nigeria.”
The Oyo State governor pledged to usher in a new era of national transformation, promising to deploy his experience in governance to drive rapid and sustainable development across all sectors of the Nigerian economy.
According to him, Nigeria deserves visionary leadership capable of unlocking the country’s vast potential and delivering tangible benefits to citizens irrespective of ethnicity, religion, or political affiliation.
Makinde assured Nigerians that, if elected President, his administration would prioritize comprehensive security reforms aimed at protecting lives and property, while creating an enabling environment for businesses and investments to thrive.
He further outlined plans to revitalize the nation’s economy, expand social welfare programmes, accelerate infrastructure development, modernize agriculture, create jobs for millions of youths, and strengthen institutions of governance.
The APM presidential candidate emphasized that his vision is centered on holistic national development, inclusive growth, and the restoration of public confidence in government through transparency, accountability, and people-oriented policies.“Our nation possesses immense human and natural resources. What we require is purposeful leadership, strategic planning, and unwavering commitment to the welfare of the people.
